Born in Uld'ah to a noble family of knights, Osric's life lead him on another path after an accident, a farcry from what his father would have preferred and as such he was disowned and forced to take on a new last name to seperate himself from his noble house. He went from running with a ruthless band of mercenary, living among the Amalj'aa to working on a ship in Limsa Lominsa and finally to where he is currently, taking up casual adventuring and trying to get some semblance of control over his life.

Osric is generally a quiet person, not really known for speaking unless spoken to first and rarely indulges in small talk though he's gotten better at socializing in recent times. He's blunt, stoic, somewhat literally minded and often misses jokes and innuendo.
For the most part Osric is friendly to a point, polite on first meeting and a little awkward but he's well-meaning.
Once he's warmed up to you he tends to be a lot more open and sincere in demeanor, enjoying puns and a strong drink among good company.
Placing Osric's moral compass is difficult, he is at the very least aware of what is considered just and right, but he often leans more logical than empathetic as a result of his time running with a mercenary group not very well known for taking anything but dirty jobs. His intentions are never malicious but he is also a realist and will not hesitate to play the 'bad guy' to get results if he feels strongly that any other plan or solution isn't going to work.
He sometimes struggles to empathize but he isn't emotionless, just uncertain of how to express himself at times and so he often maintains a neutral expression as he processes things which often leads to the assumptions he doesn't care or is uninterested when he usually does. Osric is an excellent listener and he prefers it to being the one to carry conversations, whether he likes to admit it or not he's a follower at heart and will only step up to take initiative if no one else does.Recently he's been having to take charge of things more often with the Free Company he joined given most of its members are more passive than even he is and its different and a little jarring for him. Having to call the shots generally leaves him in a poor temper. He doesn't have anger problems, but he does have a tendency to be very short when he feels like someone is prodding with ill intent but he loves a friendly ribbing and can usually tell the difference.
Extra: The white streaks in his hair are new, he developed them due to stress and he's a little embarrassed by it and will sometimes take the time to dye them back red.
Osric is a rather inquisitive but passive character, he doesn't talk about himself often but is very quick to ask questions to sate his curiousity of others so if an offhand remark is made he can follow the trail of with a question he will often take it.
Sometimes he pries unintentionally but is quick to respect boundaries when they are placed, he just stumbles into them often.
Of the few things he will openly talk about regarding himself are his time as a Shipwright and his recent ventures into adventuring.

Quite the drinker, it takes a lot to get him drunk and he enjoys his alcohold regardless of what form its in.
DETAILED HOOKS
While Osric does not use his family name any longer it is quite well known in Uld'ah for being a prominent lineage of knights and Sultanasworn. His resemblance to his father, a well regarded Sultanasworn named Eckhart Vaulden, is quite obvious to those with at least a passing familiarity to the Sultana's Guard.
His time running with a shady mercenary crew from ages 15 to 21 have given him a rather poor reputation in some parts of Thanalan. The group was known as the Bloody Butcher's and he was regarded as their leader's 'dog' given her penchant for sending him out to deal with things in her stead.
After leaving Thanalan he became a Shipwright in Limsa Lominsan to a man named Viknar Altruce and his vessel 'the Bloody Brine', being on yet another group with a name associated with blood is an irony not lost to him but he loved his time on the sea and only quit due to his captain retiring and his unwillingness to seek another ship.
Osric dabbles in several artisan and handcraft hobbies to varying degrees of success but he is woodworker first and foremost and often gets extra work with the Carpenter's Guild, its one of the few things he takes pride on and his skill with both a saw and whittling knife are near professional level despite him being mostly self-taught. He's recently began honing it with lessons at the guild.
Born from a noble family in Uld’ah of the last name Vaulden, the men of their lineage are known for becoming guards of rich magistrate members as well as Sultanasworn. From a young age Osric and his older brothers were trained as gladiators, given swords and shields and encouraged to hone their craft.
Osric had always been the quieter of his three siblings, the youngest and most sheltered by their mother until her untimely death to illness when he was seven. Though far from cruel, their father Eckhart was hardly loving or attentive and only held an interest in his sons when they were studying the blade. He was especially harsh on Osric who had never held much interest in following in his family legacy and would much rather have his face in a fantasy novel. By fifteen he was expected to begin his knighthood properly, but fate had other plans. A visit to the Ruby Avenue ended in an altercation that left a man dead at his hands, his family name tarnished. His father, ashamed and worried of their reputation, paid a hefty sum to remove the incident from public eye and disowned Osric on the spot. He was to be sent to an Uncle elsewhere to be cared for, but that night he chose to run away instead out into the deserts of Thanalan.
Osric intended, in his teenage hurt and misery, to throw himself from the first cliff he saw, but a passing mercenary gripped his wrist to stop him. Introducing herself as Peach Rain, the female Roegadyn took him under her wing and trained him to be her right hand; teaching him to wield an axe like she did - having been a former pirate before the code of Limsa Lominsa came into play.
Under her tutelage he grew stronger, dangerous, his axe blade ruthless and his reputation vile-he often wore a skull-like helm to cover his face on jobs, answered to a nickname to separate himself from the crimes he committed. He took this moniker as a new last name: “Vandal”. Osric did Rain’s dirty work, acted as her attack dog, and did things he is not proud of to survive for several years. He tolerated her abuse, both physical and mental, until finally one day the dog bit back. In the midst of an altercation he snapped, killing her in the ensuing fight and scaring himself with the same sudden rage that had overcome him in the Ruby Avenue prior.
Not wanting to face the rest of Rain’s crew when they realized what he’d done, he fled into the Sagolii desert and nearly died to the heat and dehydration as he crossed into Paglth’an but was saved by a passing Amalj’aa patrol who took him to Zolm'ak. At first they intended to send him away immediately, guarded as they were to outsiders, but seeing a chance to escape the harsh reality of his life Osric pleaded to remain. An older Amalj’aa named Maliki’a agreed to teach him their ways, hunting and maintaining their settlement. The brief respite from the world of man was a welcome one for him, he picked up carpentry and had a natural skill with it earning him further acceptance as what Maliki’a would refer to him as a ‘scaleless brother’. Eventually though, Osric knew he would have to leave…
He had always wanted to see the ocean, living in the arid and desert filled areas around Uld’ah meant not being as familiar with such a view and with his new goal in mind he left Zolm’ak and made his way to Limsa Lominsa on the back of his newly acquired Chocobo ‘Meteor’. Finding work on a ship with no previous experience proved to be a lot harder than he had expected and dejected he drank himself into a stupor in an alleyway near the docks only to be found by a Roegdayn captain by the name of Viknar Atruce.
At first thinking Osric was there to cause trouble, he disarmed what he thought was a weapon from the younger man’s hand only to find a whittling knife and a block puzzle the Hyur had been working on. Intrigued by how well sculpted the wooden item was he dragged a drunk and protesting Osric back to his home where his wife helped sober the lad up and they could speak more properly the next day. Having an eye for someone with potential to be his new shipwright, Viknar agreed to take Osric aboard his ship and pay to have him learn the ways of maintaining one in exchange for a free year of labor and eager to get on a boat and go sailing Osric agreed. He and Viknar grew close in his time sailing with the man, he learned a lot about ships, woodworking and overheard many tales of adventure. Despite viewing the man as a father-figure and loving his time aboard the ‘Bloody Brine’, a nagging feeling pulled at him to go out and see the world more than just across the waves of the sea and so Osric made the decision to step off the ship and begin adventuring…

Rozwynn is Osric's most trusted and closest companion from the very beginning. There is no other person he would have ever considered being in a relationship with given his aversion to romance and the like but Roz has been his exception. He still struggles with feelings of being unworthy of such a kind and patient partner, but he's gotten significantly better about it.

His relationship with Novi is easily stated as 'complicated'. They get along well enough, both enjoying a good fight and a stiff drink but that is where their similarities end. To say he and Tano do not get along is an understatement. The two frequently end up working together and openly despise the other though hilariously they make an excellent team when they focus on the job and not their disdain. He finds her obnoxiously egotistical and if given half the chance would toss her in the ocean.
